The long history of Sasanokawa Shuzo goes back to 1710, the year of establishment. In 1742 they moved to Kooriyama city, where its head office is located even today. One of their sake brands, Sasanokawa is one of the most popular in the region. They obtained the license of whisky production in 1946. Sasanokawa Shuzo In 1983 the whisky storage was built, which allowed them to store and mature whisky with great care. Sasanokawa Shuzo released a series of whisky under the brand name 963, which has earned a great reputation since its release.
Deep in the mountains of Fukushima 260km north of Tokyo lies the small town of Asaka. In 2016 a defunct distillery was refreshed with new equipment and began operating as the re-branded Asaka Distillery.
